4am in detroit

Massive shout goes out to DJ Bwyse at Talking In Stereo for hosting a mix I recently made called 4am in Detroit.

I pulled a stack of records that were in any way related to the Motor City and started in on this with no set direction.  I thought it was fitting to charter an unplanned trip through the city’s music back catalogue, a mix with no road map, if you like.

Taking in sounds from Omar S, Rick Wilhite, Carl Craig, Jay Dee, Theo Parrish, a Moodymann or two, including remixes and originals.  You’ll hear some Yusef Lateef too, the jazzman who adopted Detroit as his hometown before his playing career kicked off.

It was a fun gig and the original mix was too big to even send to Bwyse so I cut it down in parts and it now runs to a cool 1 hour 30 and some.

Do check the rest of the blog.  Bwyse has been a Brother on the Side for some time now and his selections and radio shows are always on point.

    Thanks for your comments Matt – glad you liked it. I was following on the Okra tradition. I was conscious of your mix so kept the KDJ content down. :)

    I’m very excited…passed
    the link on to some friends one of whom
    played some detroit techno at 4am on
    Sat night…they’ll be having it!
