brothers on the side…music of the moment

February 1, 2008

I hope you are enjoying the series, feel free to dig in the archives for the old ones.

Music of the Moment is a fantastic look into the world of excellent (European) music.  Chris has a real ear for a tune and introduces all music with the same honesty and enthusiasm.  It is not just about rarity or vinyl or being cool.  It is about Music.  First and foremost.  And I think the feeling really comes across.

Plus you got to check out his Lazy Sunday Mixes, they are awesome.  Good work Chris!

HOW OFTEN DO YOU POST?

if possible, daily from Sunday to Friday… if there’s something I think the world should know about (although that doesn’t stop me from posting even if there’s nothing to say…). Saturday is usually my blog-free day!

WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU STOP THE BLOG?

If my private life would start to suffer under the time I invest in the blog.

HYPE MACHINE OR EL.BOWS?

Hype Machine is first, but I also use Elbo.ws.

BLOGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE

WHAT IS BEHIND YOUR BLOG NAME?

The blog is intended to be my musical diary, so I mostly write about music that in any way keeps me busy at that very moment. Hence Music Of The Moment… simple as that!

THE BLOG IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN?

Work… sometimes! But don’t tell my boss!

THE BLOG IS LESS IMPORTANT THAN?

my private life.

A POST YOU ARE DAMN PROUD OF?

probably the double-posting of the Blackfield-Interview with my own photos; the posts keep bringing back memories of a perfect evening!
Part 1
Part 2

WHY MP3S, AND WHY NOW?

since there’s hardly any record-store left around my place where one can “listen before you buy”, I embrace the possibility of doing just that with MP3s, and that’s my main intention for posting songs on my blog, too. I guess these days it’s easier for people to discover new music on the internet rather than on the radio or in shops, and of course MP3s play the big role in this new behaviour. On the other hand I’m still an old-school music collector with a rack full of CDs and Vinyl, and I can’t imagine that a collection of bits and bytes on a computer will ever replace that. There’s more to music than just a double-click!

WHAT BAND OR PRODUCER IS REALLY DOING IT FOR YOU RIGHT NOW?

I think Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, No-Man) is the most creative musical genius of our time; his output is on a constant high level, and I often wonder where he takes the time to keep all his projects going.
My Best-Albums-Of-2007 so check there to see what artists did it for me recently!

OTHER THAN LIKING THEIR TRACK WHAT WOULD A BAND OR LABEL HAVE TO GIVE YOU TO MAKE YOU POST ON THEM?

It’s always nice to get in touch with artists or labels who offer their work for blog promotion; it shows me that someone really embraces the new distribution possibilities for their music. Of course one or two free songs surely help to get on my blog, as I don’t only want to write about music, but also give the readers the ability to actually hear something. I don’t like people who want to impose promotion on me, but are too stingy to even give away the tiniest note of their work. If you want your music to be heard, you have to make it audible, right?

IF YOU COULD GET ANY WRITER OR MUSIC EVENT EXCLUSIVE FOR YOUR BLOG, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

hmmm… never really thought about that. But it would be quite cool if Terry Pratchett would write a regular column about the music scene of Discworld on my blog!

THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER

3 BLOGS THAT YOU RECOMMEND / INSPIRED YOU TO START:

I was always inspired by my Danish buddy Morten from Hits In The Car; he was one of my first internet acquaintances, and he spawned my interest in Danish music. Other recommended reads are Schallgrenzen and Coast Is Clear (even if they’re written in German, you should definitely check out the music they post!).
Hits In The Car
Schallgrenzen
Coast Is Clear

3 DESERT ISLAND BOOKS:

Catcher In The Rye – J.D. Salinger
The Beach – Alex Garland (fits the theme!)
and the complete Discworld-series from Terry Pratchett should keep me busy for a while!

3 DESERT ISLAND RECORDS:

you’re kidding me, right??? Well, I’ll give it a try, but please don’t send me to that island just to prove if I’m really taking these three with me!
Mew – And The Glass Handed Kites
Beatles – Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band
Billy Joel – Kohuept (Live in USSR)

3 PEOPLE YOU REALLY HOPE WILL READ YOUR BLOG:

all those who say they do!

3 PEOPLE YOU HOPE WILL NEVER READ YOUR BLOG:

I don’t care really… it’s free to read for everyone, as long as they’re keeping their mouth shut when they’re not really interested in the cause!

AND FINALLY
A TRACK FOR THE READERS OF INNERSOUNDS…

Mew – Comforting Sounds

This for me is one of the best songs ever written. You probably know these songs that could go on and on and on for hours without getting boring, and this one here is just one of those. Put on your earphones, get comfortable, close your eyes and press play… and escape this world for 8 ½ minutes!
