dj tools
January 24, 2008

Some edits are put together for fun and to be used to get from A to B in a mix. They are just DJ Tools and as such are not supposed to be big or clever. A groove with (usually) a few vocal samples.
It’s up to the DJ to use them in an interesting way.
Well after a few beers the other evening, a few beers, and a chat about Joe Claussell and his EQ overkill…I got to playing around with this little edit and all the EQ dials on my mixer…
I put it up here more as an example of what not to do. Because as you can tell from Joe’s picture above, dropping the bass or juggling the volume always sounds better in the DJ’s head than it does on the dancefloor…
Don’t mess too much with effects, oh, and don’t wear caftans…but you knew that one already…

hahahahhaha!!! its so funny you mention Joe Claussell. i just saw him at Body & Soul at Webster Hall in NYC (Francois K, Joe Claussell, and Danny Krivit tag team all night) and everytime he got on the decks he was practically masturbating the faders and knobs. it was out of control! he actually dominated Frankcois K and Krivit in my opinion, but his style was just crazy with the fader action.
oh yeah, and he was wearing a modern looking caftan with a matching doo-rag.
love the really over the top home page picture on Joe Clausell’s website of his mixer covered in blood and bits of his knuckles, he suffers so we don’t have to!!
Yer, right,
Dude does like himself a lot, but I’ve heard some absolute magic when I saw him in Japan with the crossover action…maybe he was aided by the fact he was being worshipped unequivocally by the Tokyo crowd.
Theo Parrish same, I’ve seen him overdo it, but on the right night he’s tapping into Ron Hardy’s ghost.
Oh, and thanks for the selections Jez, one of the choicest blogs for taste I think.
is this an edit done by yourself or one that is available that you have tweeked about with?
cheers
