eighties ladies

April 14, 2008

The Eighties Ladies were a production project of Roy Ayers, and were released on his hard to find disco label Uno Melodic.
I heard of them ass-backwards as usual. I picked up a re-version of one of their tracks, ‘Tell Him’, by West London broken beats team Bugz In The Attic. I played it to death about five years ago and never once knew it was a cover version (always read the label…).

Then I found DJ Red Greg and heard a mix of his that had the original – the Roy Ayers version- and was fiending to get a copy.
I never saw it in any shop, or on Ebay. It was ridiculously hard to find. Until I went to Japan and found two copies in the same shop. I bought both (though I think they are probably bootlegs…).

Anyway, title track from the album, stitched together with the instrumental – also on the album.

(The original of Tell Him will be on the Tokyo Drifter mix coming later this week…check it…you’ll flip!)
