get up stand up
November 19, 2008

To be completely honest with you, it seems 90% of the people I play to at Jack’s have not a care in the world what I play. And the other 10%, while they may know or enjoy the odd tune, aren’t going to move their ass anyway.
This record was a guaranteed floor shaker when I used to go out clubbing, and I’ve played it to crazy scenes before. Last Friday? Nada. Not even a peep of recognition that it’s a Marley cover. Not a holla, a whoop or a cheer. Nothing. Very strange. I will have to work on this Jack’s crowd and see if we can’t educate them a bit…

I know, it`s sometimes like trying to educate a couple of rottweilers to the upanishads!
Good luck.

hey guys, I started going to your blog a few years back… maybe 2 or a little less. Which one of you started it? just curious because I had a brief correspondence with that person. Keep it up, good taste. And check my blog LOUDMANquietman.blogspot.com

Sounds like a tough crowd. Maybe time they titrate their meds a bit.
I don’t know Jack’s nor what kinda music you must play .. . but why don’t you drop EARTHSHAKER on ‘em, or some other track that they GOTTA at least show a pulse? Winston Francis DON’T CHANGE? Paulette & Tanya Winley’s RHYMIN’ & RAPPIN’?
Best of luck in your mission . ..
i’m so glad that you are playing on a regular basis. the crowd thing sucks though. i’ve totally been there. i used to do a deep house night and there would be older folk drinking at the bar who didn’t really know what deep house was. its frustrating definitely because some of them are probably in an eternal music sleeperhold and will never get it no matter what you do. but keep rockin for the rest that will definitely come around.
tough crowd mate and ‘get up, stand up, is such a great tune. thanks for reminding me of it. think i heard it first on one of the Grand Central comps.
lovely stuff.
cheers

Thanks for the comments and advice. Going to keep posting records that I play at Jack’s on here. Basically I play bass heavy business that should “work” but doesn’t…
haha
Col - yes! The Fat City comps are where I first heard this track too. Killer comps, I’ve still got them all.
Best, Jez
oh…so maybe the last times I played records and nobody moved actually meant there was something wrong with the crowd…not me…
back to innersounds after a break; glad to see it’s still on, keep it up!
I feel for you…
