house of 909

February 7, 2008

A massive big up to KeironB, who used to tolerate me hanging around with him when I first moved to The Big Smoke. He introduced me to alot of ‘faces’ on the London scene, and put up with me train-spotting records at his house, on his mixtapes, or at the record shop.

Being old school, he found it quite annoying that I wanted to know the name of every record, and often did his best to hide the sleeves, or cover the records when he was playing. It was always my aim when he left the room, to try and nick the record sleeve, memorise the label – and artist – and return the record before he came back. If he caught me I’d be in trouble!

Or another trick would be when we would visit Flying Records in Soho, and Andy would pull out a stack, and flip through them on the shop system for K. I would loiter at the back of the shop with some headphones half on, half off, pretending to listen to something else. Then after K had left I’d ask Andy to dig out some tune that K had bought…

I never would have found this B-side remix any other way…

Man, the original is way, waaaay better than this mix. Totally different, granted, but it’s amazing!

Gavin – that’s funny, I was going to say the other other side is no good and it’s all about the remix! But I stand corrected. I will listen to the other side when I get home tonight. I may have forgotten it.

this is awesome! great story! i used to do the same thing but wasn’t as persistent or annoying as you were so it took me a lot more time to figure out names of things. if only i could’ve been more annoying to my dj friends!!! i mean that as a compliment!

    thx for the great music!
