jack wilson quartet

November 6, 2007

This record is a little hard to find these days, but totally worth the search. Listen to the title track for an idea of just how swinging this session was. Featuring Roy Ayers, in his ealry 20s, on vibes (with a stunning and mature solo) there are a few tracks I could have chosen.

Just after I dug up the record I found out the album has now been re-issued on CD. Still available at many online and real-world stores, I recommend you get a copy.

Today’s track ‘Ramblin’ is cool, but the Quartet’s version of Oliver Nelson’s ‘Stolen Moments’ is, as they say in jazz-speak, somethin’ else…
