mustapha dance

July 29, 2008

The most obvious ‘dance’ record by The Clash is probably Magnificent Seven. It got spins at the Garage and was a direct result of the band’s time in New York.

However, I’ve always had a soft spot for this version of Rock The Casbah. And if you’re really lucky you can get the release with both tracks on one 12″.

If you haven’t seen it, I recommend The Future Is Unwritten – the movie recounts a powerful story of how Joe Strummer reacted to finding out GIs were writing ‘Rock The Casbah’ on bombs before they dropped them in the first Gulf War.

That is a such a great cut. Another sleeper dance cut by them is The Cool Out, basically an instrumental version of The Call Up (about the draft) and it’s got loads of boogie and groove. Peace

There’s a nice little Maurice Fulton mix where he drops “LIghtning strikes (not once but twice)” in a mix too
