rain on my window

Re-edits and Balearia seem to go hand in hand at the moment if you are a vinyl buyer.
There are a lot of great independent record labels intent on reminding us all how great, and how overlooked, some 80s pop music was.
Regulars of Innersounds will already know how much we appreciate the original of this record, as I’ve posted two different mixes. It seems only right to also post this re-edit then.
Originally released on the label Balearic Biscuits, by Visti & Meyland. And later re-released on Mindless Boogie. Still available if you have a dig around the Net…
Visti & Meyland - Rain

damn….been runnin around with the holidays and no time to browse the blogosphere lately….so running into this track was interesting. what’s funny is that i had never heard the term “balearic” until recently and then did a little “wiki” searching and found that its going on about 20 yrs. WTF?
on a positive note, its good to know that i was listening to the music anyways but just didn’t know that it was labeled as a subgenre. i would say that “balearic” has also changed into more of a purely house subgenre and less of what it was known as in the 80’s. its interesting though to know that this little-known subgenre has a history of its own and has evolved. the group, balaeric soul, i think is one example. i hear people writing on blogs describing music as “balearic” and then I download it and listen and its basically tribal/latin-flavored house. of course, a lot of the house in Spain has that flavor, so that’s not a surprise.
