screaming in space

June 12, 2008

Deviating from the usual warm, organic sounds that I post on Innersounds. This is a little live mix I did the other evening. Still some warmth in there, but also some tougher beats. Thanks to my friend Baya who turned my head a while back with a lovely mix of deep and minimal sounds that opened my ears to new sounds…

Got a little over-excited at times and the volume made the bass go ’squelch’, but don’t let that put you off.

Track list:

Herb Alpert - Beyond
Nina Simone - Here Comes The Sun (FK mix)
Blake Baxter - Brother’s Gonna Work It Out (Drum-apella)
Alix Alvarez - Ugly
K.I.D. - Hupendi Muziki Wangu
Tracey Thorn - It’s All True (Martin Buttrich Dub)
Stephen Malkmus - Kindling For The Master (Polmo Polpo Remix)
Tracey Thorn - It’s All True (Kris Menace Remix)
Three Kings - Shake Dat Booty (Pal Joey Reinterpretation)
Amplified - Asteroid
Dana Byrd - Your Love (Danny Krivit Re-edit)
Johnny Chingas - Phone Home

DOOD. i can’t believe you started this off with that herb alpert tune, i just found that shit on 12″ a couple weeks ago and was actually contemplating using it to start off a mix. what a track, a techno-not-techno jam if i’ve ever heard one. and i hear my KID jam in there too. i will give a thorough listen tomorrow, but the mixture of sounds is right up my alley, i almost would mistake it for one of my own mixes if i knew some of the other records in there!

Yeah, nice nice mix here Jez. I’m a big fan of that Francois K remix of Nina Simone. I am actually from Nina Simone’s home town. Never saw her there, though:). Anyway, nice mix. I hope for more in the future. Which version of the Tracey Thorn is that?

    hey jez
only had chance to listen to the first half this morning bfore running out the door, but has put a definite bop to my step during my half hour of frantic multi-tasking. Looking fwd to checking out the rest later. (tiny quibble… the intro to the KID track is almost my favourite bit!)

Sorry it took me a while to comment here..

Can you put it up again? Or send me a link?

Right up my alley and as with many of your mixes, I loved it. Made me smile. Bought secret weapons pt 2 for the beautiful simone mix…
