strategy

January 24, 2008

For the longest time, when I started DJing, all I had of this track was two copies of the Philly 7″.

I used to extend the groove with the two sevens and thought it was brilliant, repeating bits and stringing out the breakdown. But it wasn’t good. I was no Grandmaster Flash – believe me.

I got it wrong more times than I got it right, and in the end I had to talk myself out of even trying…it was embarrassing!

Which is why I was so excited to find the 12″ – I hadn’t previously known there was one…otherwise I wouldn’t have murdered those poor 7s in public. Love this track from start to finish, it is only tainted for me, because I can still hear in my head all the points at which I would try to ‘double up’ with the two 45s…hahaha…

Maybe I ought to dust them off and try that again?…What with the current vogue for everything ‘organic’ and slightly ‘left’…
