what is this?
July 13, 2009

Some people are listing this track in their top 5 of 2009 already - and it only came out in June…
The buzz on it was big, there was secrecy about who was involved, discussion over what the name meant and rotation from Rub ‘n’ Tug and other East & West coast heads didn’t hurt. Legend has it Doug Lee (aka Lee Douglas the uber-editor) and Justin Van Der Volgen (from Out Hud and !!!) were so tired of the poor quality music they were hearing all over New York they locked themselves in Justin’s studio; with a crate of Red Bull and a hat full of ideas; determined to bring the walls of house down.
It’s not rewriting any rule books, but it does have an infectious groove. A lot of folk talk about ‘that break down’ and how out of leftfield it is. But I think it is fairly standard on a lot of Justin’s other tracks including his solo or Out Hud stuff.
But that is not to knock it. The groove is there and it holds steady all night long. Which is never a bad thing. I can imagine it sounds huge on a good soundsystem. It also encouraged me to dig out a few forgotten loves from the abstract-ish House corner of my collection…
