with love from l.a.

So I’m back… after time in New Zealand and more importantly LA

First up, I want to say thanks to my man Don Froth for hosting my weekend adventures.  Love and thanks to Christine and Alex for a wicked Mexican dinner and props to Osamu for booking me to play the Townhouse in Venice last Sunday. Word up to Michiel for the excellent burgers and BBQ in Topanga – and many thanks for the blog support, spreading the word, and encouraging me to stick with it.  It was great to know you read it.

So, LA?  How was it?

It was better than I expected, I was buzzing off the vibe of everyone I met out there.  It could be the weather or the ocean that helps, certainly London seems pretty hectic in comparison.

Musically it was a wild weekend to go.  I was there 4 nights and went out for three of them, but packed in 4 different gigs.  Osamu and Heidi spinning sweet Disco at the Fish Company in Santa Monica (LA people: this is a regular Friday slot so make it down and support).  Saturday was split between the Echoplex for a live Dubstep show by L-Wiz and a Rub-N-Tug warehouse party in downtown LA.

Sunday was this:

near Venice beach.  Which was a blast, and where I met Billy Goods who asked me to play with him and Dam Funk the next night, on account of me playing this record and him loving it.  It would have been a total honour to play with Dam and Billy as I love what they are doing, but to be honest I was too nervous to accept the offer…maybe next time?

So the next few posts will be either records I played that night or bought in LA; and this one falls under both categories.  I picked this up at random in Record Surplus on Saturday, and it was so dope I played it on Sunday.  Seemed like a sweet LA groove to me (even though it was made in Houston…)
